Got coolant dripping under your RSX or you're seeing puddles on your driveway? Your lower radiator hose's done. The Acura RSX lower radiator hose (part number 19502-PND-000) connects your radiator's lower neck to your thermostat housing. When the hose gets old from years of heat cycles, the rubber either gets hard and cracks or it gets soft and swells up like a balloon. Either way, it's leaking coolant. If your lower radiator hose is leaking, it's bulging out, or it's soft and squishy when you squeeze it, replace it before it blows and leaves you on the side of the road with an overheated K20.

Here's Why These Hoses Don't Last Forever

Your lower radiator hose sits right next to your engine where it's getting cooked every time you drive. Every time your engine heats up and cools back down, the rubber expands and contracts. After sitting there for 15-20 years doing this over and over, the rubber either gets hard and brittle or it gets soft and swollen. Once the rubber's gone bad, the hose starts weeping coolant at the connections or it develops surface cracks. If the hose has swollen up and it's soft, it can actually collapse under vacuum when your engine's cooling down. That restricts your coolant flow and your engine overheats. Don't wait for it to blow - replace it when you see the warning signs.

    Factory EPDM Rubber

This hose is made from EPDM rubber like the original. EPDM holds up way better against heat and coolant than the cheap crap you'll find at the parts store. It doesn't break down as fast from constant heat cycles and it doesn't swell from sitting in coolant. You're getting the same quality hose that was on your car when it rolled off the assembly line in 2002-2006.

Do Both Hoses While You're In There

This is just the lower hose. The upper hose is sold separately. If your lower hose is shot, your upper hose probably isn't far behind - they're the same age and they've seen the same abuse. You've already got your coolant drained and you're already under the hood. Just do both hoses now instead of being back in there six months later doing the upper hose when it starts leaking too. You can find the upper radiator hose under the part number OHA-19501-PND-000.

Note: This is the lower hose only. The upper's sold separately. If you're doing the lower, seriously consider doing the upper at the same time. They're both old and they've both been cooked for years. Drain your coolant before you yank the old hose off. Don't just rip it off with the system full or you're dumping coolant all over your driveway. Use fresh coolant when you refill. Don't pour the old stuff back in - it's contaminated and it's already broken down. Bleed your cooling system after you fill it up. Air pockets will cause hot spots and your temp gauge will spike.
