Honda updated this clip design over the years. Make sure you order the right one for your car. Part number 90672-SJ4-013 fits 2006-2009 8th gen Civics (DX/EX/LX/Si, both sedan and coupe). Part number 90672-SNB-901 is the updated clip that fits 2010-2015 9th gen Civics, 2013-2017 Accords, 2013-2022 ILX, and 2012-2016 CR-Vs. The clips look similar but they're not interchangeable. Order the one that matches your year.

Why This Clip's Always Missing

This plastic clip breaks or goes missing all the time. Someone's working under the hood, accidentally snaps the clip off, and doesn't bother replacing it. Or the clip gets brittle after 10-15 years of heat cycling in the engine bay and it cracks. Once it's broken, your prop rod just dangles there with nothing holding it. Every bump you hit, the rod's bouncing around and rattling. Eventually it falls out and you lose it. Or you're propping your hood open and the rod's sliding around because there's no clip to keep it in place when the hood's down.

Way Cheaper Than Losing Your Prop Rod

Replacing a lost hood prop rod costs way more than this clip. The clip's a few bucks. A new prop rod's $30-50 depending on where you get it. If your clip's broken or missing, replace it before you lose your prop rod. It's cheap insurance. Plus, not having a rattling prop rod bouncing around your engine bay's just nice.

Snaps Into Your Core Support

The clip just snaps into place on your radiator core support. Find the hole where the old clip used to be (or where it's supposed to go if you've never had one), and push the new clip in until it clicks. Then slide your prop rod into the clip. Make sure the rod's seated in the clip properly or it'll rattle. If you can't find where the clip mounts, check your hood prop rod for a bend or hook near the bottom. That's the end that goes in the clip. The clip mounts wherever that end naturally rests when your hood's closed.

When you install the new clip, push it in firmly until you hear it click. If it doesn't click, it's not seated right and it'll fall out. Make sure your prop rod's seated all the way into the clip. If the rod's not sitting in the clip groove properly, it'll bounce around and rattle even with a new clip. If your prop rod's already lost or broken, you'll need to order a new prop rod separately.
