Honda Fuel Pump Assembly Gasket - 17574-SE0-000
Smelling gas inside your car? Got fuel stains around the base of your fuel pump assembly? Your fuel pump base gasket is leaking. The Honda fuel pump assembly gasket (part number 17574-SE0-000) seals the base of your fuel pump assembly where it mounts inside your fuel tank. When this gasket gets old, it hardens, compresses, and stops sealing. You'll smell it before you see it - that faint gas smell in the cabin that won't go away. Replace it every time you pull your fuel pump out. Reusing the old one is not worth it.
Why Your Fuel Pump Base Gasket Leaks
The fuel pump base gasket lives at the bottom of your fuel pump assembly, constantly submerged in fuel and exposed to heat cycling every time you drive. It's made from rubber or cork, and that constant exposure compresses and hardens it over time. Once it hardens, it can't conform to the mating surface anymore and fuel seeps past it. You won't always see a puddle - sometimes you just get a persistent fuel smell in the cabin, especially after a hot soak. If you're already pulling the fuel pump to replace it, upgrade to a higher-flow unit, or swap the fuel level sender, throw a new gasket in at the same time. It takes 10 seconds to install and it's the cheapest insurance against doing the whole job twice.
Replace It Every Single Time
This is not optional. Any time you remove your fuel pump assembly, this gasket gets replaced. It's a few dollars and takes no time at all to install. If you skip it and the old gasket leaks, you're dropping the fuel tank again to fix it - that's several hours of labor to save a couple bucks. Don't do that to yourself. If you're ordering a fuel pump, fuel filter, or fuel level sender, add this gasket to your cart now so you have it on hand when the time comes.
Installation Notes
Before you install the new gasket, clean the mating surface at the base of your fuel pump assembly. If there's old gasket material stuck to the base, scrape it off with a razor blade and make sure the surface is clean and flat. A contaminated or uneven surface will cause your new gasket to leak even if it's brand new. Install the gasket dry on the base of the pump assembly before dropping it back into the tank. No sealant needed - the correct clamping torque on the retaining ring does the work.
