Honda K Series Transmission Interlock Bolt - 24433-PH8-000
Rebuilding your K series transmission and you need the bolt that holds the interlock to the case? Part number 24433-PH8-000. This is the bolt that threads through the outside of your trans case and locks the gear selector interlock in place. Without this bolt tight, your interlock's moving around inside the case and your shifts are going to be all screwed up. Grinding gears, missed shifts, getting stuck in gear, that's what happens when the interlock's not locked down properly.
Here's What This Bolt Actually Does
Your transmission's got an interlock assembly inside that prevents you from jamming two gears in at once. The interlock sits between your shift rails and blocks them from engaging simultaneously. This bolt goes through the outside of your trans case and bolts the interlock to the case so it can't move. When the interlock's bolted solid, your shift arms can move the rails and select gears normally. If the bolt's loose or missing, the interlock's flopping around in there. Your shift rails can't line up right with the interlock and you're getting grinding, lockup, or you can't get into certain gears. The bolt keeps the interlock from moving so everything works.
Don't Order the Wrong Bolt
There's another bolt, part number 90029-611-010, that people confuse with this one. That bolt goes on the shift arm inside the transmission. It's internal. This bolt (24433-PH8-000) goes through the outside of the case. You can see this one from outside the trans. The other one's buried inside with the shift forks and rails. They look similar but they're totally different bolts for totally different spots. If you're ordering parts for a transmission rebuild, make sure you're getting this one - the external case bolt - not the internal shift arm bolt. Check your diagram before you order.
Replace It When You're Doing a Rebuild
If you're splitting your transmission case for a rebuild, replace this bolt. It's been torqued down for 100k+ miles. It's cheap. Don't reuse old bolts when you're already $500 deep in bearings and synchros. Get a fresh bolt, torque it right, and you're done. If you're just doing a clutch and you're not opening the transmission, you're not touching this bolt. But if you're in there rebuilding, replace it. Don't cheap out on a $5 bolt after spending hundreds on a rebuild.
