  • Insane Shafts Chromoly Axles - 06-11 Civic Si / FN2 Type R

You slapped a turbo on your 8th gen Si or FN2 Type R and now you're making 350-400 wheel horsepower. Your stock axles are clicking like crazy under hard acceleration and you know they're about to let go. We've seen it a hundred times. Stock axles are fine when you're making the factory 200 horsepower but the second you're pushing real power through them, they can't handle it. The CV joints start clicking, then they pop out of the transmission, or they just snap completely and you're stranded. Insane Shafts builds these chromoly axles to handle up to 500 wheel horsepower. They're forged from chromoly steel and put through a proprietary heat treatment process so they don't twist, bend, or break when you're launching hard or ripping through gears. If you're making serious power on your FA5, FG2, or FN2, your axles shouldn't be the part that fails.

Here's What Happens When You Push Stock Axles Too Hard

Your stock 8th gen Civic Si axles were designed for the K20Z3 making around 200 horsepower at the crank. That's what Honda engineered them for and they handle that power level just fine. But you didn't keep it stock. You added a turbo, you're making 350-400 whp, and now you're sending three times the torque through those axles every time you get on it. The CV joints weren't built for that. They start clicking when you're turning hard or accelerating. That clicking's the CV joint telling you it's about to fail. Some people ignore it and keep driving. Then one day you're getting on the highway, you nail the throttle, and the axle pops out of the transmission or the CV joint explodes. Now you're on the side of the road calling a tow truck. Chromoly axles are way stronger than the mild steel Honda uses. The heat treatment process makes them handle high torque loads without failing. You're not dealing with clicking axles or worrying about them breaking when you're driving hard.

These Are Built for Real Power

Insane Shafts rates these axles for up to 500 wheel horsepower. That's not a conservative rating where they're hedging their bets. We've seen these axles on built K series motors making 450+ whp getting beaten on at the track and they hold up. If you're running a K20 or K24 with a big Garrett turbo making 400-450 whp, these axles handle it. If you're doing aggressive launches or you're drag racing, the chromoly construction takes the shock loads without snapping. Stock axles would be done after a few hard launches. These keep working. You're paying more than budget axles but you're getting axles that aren't going to leave you stranded when you're pushing the car.

    Why Chromoly Makes a Difference

Insane Shafts forges these axles from chromoly steel. Chromoly's an alloy that's got chromium and molybdenum added to make it way stronger and tougher than the mild steel Honda uses in your stock axles. After forging, they run the axles through a proprietary annealing and heat treatment process. That process changes the grain structure of the steel and increases the tensile strength and fatigue resistance. What that means in real terms is the axles can handle high torque without twisting or bending. You're not replacing these every year because they failed. They're built to last as long as you're running them.

    What Comes in the Box

The axles come with removable ABS rings if your car's got ABS. If you're running an FN2 Type R or a Civic Si with ABS, the rings are already installed on the axles. If you're doing a swap where you're not using ABS, you can pull the rings off. You also get new spindle nuts so you're not reusing the old ones. When you install the axles, torque those spindle nuts to the proper spec. Don't skip that or the axles will walk out of the hubs and you'll be doing the job again.

    What You Get

    • Insane Shafts chromoly axles for 8th gen Civic Si / FN2 Type R (pair - driver and passenger side)
    • Forged chromoly steel construction
    • Proprietary annealing and heat treatment process
    • Rated for up to 500 wheel horsepower
    • Removable ABS rings (if applicable)
    • New spindle nuts included
    • 18-month limited warranty from Insane Shafts

    Fits Your Car

    • 2006-2011 Honda Civic Si (FA5 sedan)
    • 2006-2011 Honda Civic Si (FG2 coupe)
    • 2007-2011 Honda Civic Type R (FN2)

Note: These axles are for manual transmission 8th gen Civic Si and FN2 Type R models only. They won't work on automatic transmission cars. These are built for high-performance turbo builds making serious power. If you're running a stock or lightly modified K series making under 300 whp, you probably don't need chromoly axles yet. Stock axles or OE replacement axles work fine at that power level. But if you're making 300+ whp and you're tracking the car or doing hard launches, upgrade to chromoly before your stock axles fail on you. When you're installing the axles, use the new spindle nuts that come in the kit and torque them to spec. Don't reuse your old spindle nuts. Check your CV boots and make sure they're sealed properly with no tears or leaking grease. If a boot's torn, the CV joint's going to fail quick from dirt and water getting inside. While you've got everything apart, check your intermediate shaft and wheel bearings. If the intermediate shaft's got play or the bearings are making noise, replace them now so you're not pulling the axles back out in six months to fix those.
