Drag Cartel Transmission Scatter Shield - Honda/Acura K Series
If your K series build is running 11.49 or quicker, NHRA requires a transmission scatter shield - no exceptions. The Drag Cartel scatter shield is a one-piece high-tensile-strength steel shield that mounts between your transmission bell housing and your engine block. When your transmission grenades or your flywheel lets go at high RPM, this shield keeps the shrapnel inside the car instead of through your floor, your firewall, or your legs. It's powder-coated black and built to actually stop debris - not just satisfy a tech inspection checklist.
Drag Cartel makes two versions: one with integrated coil pack mounting brackets, one without. If you're running individual coils and need a mounting solution, get the coil mount version (DCR-K-SHLD-COILKIT). Running coil-on-plug or mounting your coils elsewhere? Get the standard shield (DCR-DC-K-SHLD). Same protection either way - the only difference is the coil mounts.
Why You Actually Need This
Big power plus hard launches plus repeated runs equals serious stress on your drivetrain. Transmissions fail from broken gears and shafts. Flywheels crack and disintegrate from sustained high RPM. When a flywheel lets go, chunks of steel leave the bellhousing at hundreds of miles per hour. When a transmission grenade goes off, gears and shards go everywhere. Without a scatter shield, that debris exits through your floor, your firewall, or you. NHRA mandates scatter shields at 11.49 and quicker because the failure rate at that power level is real - this isn't bureaucratic box-checking, it's a proven safety requirement that's saved drivers at the track.
One-Piece Steel Construction
This shield is cut and formed from a single piece of high-tensile-strength steel - no seams, no bolted joints, no weak points that can split under impact. Multi-piece shields can separate exactly when you need them most. One-piece construction doesn't have that problem. The powder-coat black finish handles the heat and corrosion that come with a racing environment. It bolts directly between your transmission bell housing and block using the existing mounting points - no cutting, no fabrication.
With or Without Coil Pack Mounting
The coil pack mount version (DCR-K-SHLD-COILKIT) has integrated mounting brackets welded directly to the shield. If you've already got your coils sorted somewhere else, grab the standard version (DCR-DC-K-SHLD) and skip the mounts you won't use. Both shields are identical in protection. Pick the one that matches your ignition setup and move on.
Pair this with a quality K series clutch and flywheel setup - check out the Competition Clutch Rigid Twin Disc (K20A2/A3/Z1/Z3) or Competition Clutch Stage 4 Ceramic Sprung Clutch for K20A/Z if you're building a full drag package.
What's Included
- Drag Cartel K series transmission scatter shield (one-piece high-tensile-strength steel)
- Powder-coated black finish
- All mounting hardware
- Coil pack mounting feet (coil mount version only - DCR-K-SHLD-COILKIT)
- NHRA approved for 11.49 and quicker
Compatible Transmissions
- K20A, K20Z transmissions
- K24A transmissions
- K-swap transmissions in drag racing applications
Installation Note: The scatter shield bolts between your transmission bell housing and engine block. You need to pull the transmission to install it - plan this into your build schedule before you go to the track. If you're putting together a high-horsepower K series drag build, install this before your first run, not after tech fails you. Check your sanctioning body's current rulebook - some tracks and organizations have their own scatter shield specs beyond NHRA's baseline.
