Mystery oil leak coming from your engine? Better check the VTEC Solenoid. Both the Spool Valve Filter and the VTEC solenoid base are known to leak. The 36172-P08-015 solenoid gasket sits between the spool valve assembly and the VTEC Solenoid cap section. After enough heat cycles, the old seal flattens, cracks, or just stops sealing, then you get seepage, grime, and that lovely burnt oil smell on a hot header.

This is an OEM VTEC solenoid base gasket Honda guys actually replace during maintenance because it’s cheap insurance. A proper VTEC solenoid gasket replacement helps keep oil where it belongs and helps avoid VTEC oil pressure issues caused by leaks at the solenoid base. We run these exact gaskets on our own cars whenever we do a valve cover service or chase a mystery leak. It’s the right move for a number of different Honda and Acura chassis.
