If you're doing a timing belt job on your B series, don't skip the guide plates. The Honda B series timing belt guide plate (part number 13622-PR3-000) keeps your timing belt tracking straight on the crankshaft pulley. Without them, the belt walks off the pulley edge, slips timing, and you're looking at valves meeting pistons - a catastrophic, engine-destroying failure. These are cheap insurance. Replace them every single time you're in there.

What the Timing Belt Guide Plate Actually Does

The guide plates sit on both sides of your crankshaft pulley and keep the timing belt centered under load. Even with proper tension, a belt spinning at high RPM wants to drift side to side. The guide plates stop that drift. A worn or bent guide plate lets the belt walk toward the pulley edge, which causes uneven belt wear and eventually a slip. On a B series, a timing belt slip means bent valves at minimum. At worst, you're pulling the head and inspecting pistons. New guide plates cost next to nothing compared to that repair bill.

Replace Them Every Timing Belt Job

These are thin stamped metal parts that take constant contact from a belt spinning thousands of RPM. Over time, the edges wear down and they stop doing their job. When you've already got the timing belt off, swapping in fresh guide plates takes about 30 seconds. There's no good reason to reuse them. Pull the old ones, check the edges - if they're worn or bent at all, they're done. Install new ones and move on.

This listing is for one guide plate. Most B series engines need two - one on each side of the crankshaft pulley. If one is worn, the other one is too. Order two and do the job right the first time. You don't want to pull the belt cover again because you skipped the second one.
