  • Honda EG/EK/DC Battery Tray J-Hook Bolt/Nut - 31513-SR3-000

Your battery tray J-hook bolt is stripped or rusted out and your battery's moving around in the engine bay? Part number 31513-SR3-000. This is the OEM J-hook bolt and 6mm nut that clamps your battery tie-down bracket to the battery tray. The J-hook threads through the hold-down bracket, hooks under the lip of the battery tray, and the nut tightens down to lock your battery in place. When the bolt's corroded or the threads are stripped, you can't tighten the battery down properly. Your battery's rattling around every time you hit a bump. A loose battery can short out against the hood or fender and you're dealing with electrical fires or a dead battery.

    Here's Why These Always Corrode

The battery tray's sitting right there in the engine bay getting soaked with battery acid fumes, road salt, and whatever else gets kicked up from the road. The J-hook bolt and nut are exposed metal. Over time they corrode. The threads get rusty and crusty. Eventually you go to tighten your battery hold-down and the bolt just spins or the threads strip out. Or you're trying to remove the battery and the nut's so corroded it won't budge and you end up cutting the bolt off. Once the threads are gone, you can't secure your battery. These bolts and nuts are cheap. Don't try to make a stripped bolt work or you'll be chasing your battery around the engine bay every time you drive.

Sold Individually, Order What You Need

The J-hook bolt and nut are sold separately and individually. If you just need a new bolt because the nut's fine, order one bolt. If you need both, order one bolt and one nut. Most battery trays use one J-hook to secure the hold-down bracket, so you're typically ordering one bolt and one nut per car. If you're replacing your entire battery tray setup or you've got multiple cars, order however many you need. The part number 31513-SR3-000 covers both the bolt and the nut - specify which one you need when ordering.

Works With OEM Battery Tray and Tie Down

This J-hook bolt and nut are designed to work with the factory Honda battery tray and tie down for EG Civics, EK Civics, DC Integras, Del Sols, and S2000s. The OEM battery tray part number is 31521-SR3-000 and the tie down is 31512-SR3-000. if you need to replace those too. If your battery tray's rusted out or cracked, you'll need both the tray and new J-hook hardware. If the tray's fine and you just need the J-hook bolt or nut, this part's all you need. These don't fit aftermarket battery trays - they're designed for the OEM Honda tray specifically.

Note: This hardware is sold individually. Select whether you need the J-hook bolt or the 6mm nut when ordering. Most setups use two bolts and two nuts per battery tray. When you're installing the J-hook, make sure the hook part goes under the lip of the battery tray. The bolt threads through the battery hold-down bracket, the J-hook grabs under the tray, and the nut tightens down on top of the bracket to clamp everything together. Don't overtighten the nut, you'll strip the threads or crack the plastic battery tray. Snug it down until the tie-down bracket is tight against the battery and the battery doesn't move. That's tight enough. If you're fighting with corrosion on the old bolt, hit it with penetrating oil and let it soak before you try to remove it. If the nut's seized on the bolt, you might have to cut the bolt off with a grinder or Dremel. Clean up any corrosion on the battery tray before you install the new hardware. If the tray's got rust or battery acid damage, you should probably replace the whole tray while you're at it.
