Here's What This Seal Does

The gear selector arm connects your shift linkage to your transmission's internal shift mechanism. It sticks out through the top of your trans case. Without a seal, there's a gap where the selector arm passes through the case. That gap's an open door for dirt, water, and salt getting into your trans fluid. The dust seal sits on the selector arm under the dust shield on top of your transmission. It seals the gap between the arm and the trans case. When it's working right, nothing gets in. When it's torn or missing, road spray and dirt get sucked in every time you shift. That contaminated fluid wears everything inside your trans faster.
