Honda K24A2/A4/A8 PCV Tube - 17131-RAA-A00
Your K24 Accord, TSX, CR-V, or Element's got a rough idle or you're seeing oil leaks around the valve cover area and you've traced it to a cracked PCV tube? Part number 17131-RAA-A00. This is the OEM hard plastic tube that routes crankcase vapors from your valve cover to your intake manifold. The tube connects to the valve cover on one end and the intake manifold on the other. When the tube's cracked or the grommets are shot, you're getting a vacuum leak. Your idle's hunting, you're throwing check engine lights for lean codes, or you're leaking oil vapor out of the cracks. Fresh PCV tube with good grommets seals everything up and gets your engine running right.
Here's Why These Always Crack
The PCV tube sits right there in the engine bay getting heat-cycled every time you drive. It's hard plastic baking in engine heat for years. Eventually the plastic gets brittle and cracks. The most common spot is where the tube curves or where it connects to the fittings. Sometimes the tube's fine but the rubber grommets at each end are dried out and leaking. When you've got a crack or a bad seal, you're sucking unmetered air into the intake. Your ECU sees the lean condition and throws codes. Your idle's rough because the air-fuel mixture's off. If the crack's bad enough, you're seeing oil vapor leaking out and coating everything in the engine bay with oily residue.
Vacuum Leaks Cause All Sorts of Problems
A leaking PCV tube is a vacuum leak. Your engine's pulling air in through the crack instead of through the mass airflow sensor. The ECU doesn't know about that extra air so it can't compensate. You're running lean. The symptoms are rough idle, hesitation, check engine light with P0171 or P0174 lean codes, and sometimes a hissing sound from the engine bay. The bigger the crack, the worse the symptoms. A small crack might just make your idle a little rough. A big crack or a completely disconnected tube and your engine's running terrible. Don't try to band-aid a cracked PCV tube with tape or silicone. It won't hold and you're still getting a vacuum leak. Replace the tube and fix it right.

Note: This tube's specific to K24A2, K24A4, and K24A8 engines. Different K24 variants use different PCV tube routing - make sure this is the right one for your engine. When you're installing the new tube, check the rubber grommets at both ends. The grommets seal the tube to the valve cover and intake manifold. If they're cracked or hardened, replace them. A new tube with old grommets still leaks. Push the tube firmly into the grommets until it seats completely. You should feel it click or pop into place. If the tube's loose or doesn't seat all the way, you're getting a vacuum leak. After you've installed the tube, start the engine and listen for hissing around the connections. If you hear air leaking, pull the tube out and reseat it. Make sure the grommets are in good shape and the tube's pushed in all the way. If you're still getting lean codes or rough idle after replacing the tube, you might have other vacuum leaks - check your intake manifold gasket, brake booster hose, and EVAP system for leaks. But if your PCV tube's cracked or the grommets are shot, start there. It's a common failure point on these K24 engines and it's cheap to fix.
