Honda K24A8/K24Z1 Throttle Body Gasket - 16176-RTA-004
High idle that won't settle? Car running lean with a P0171 and you've already cleaned everything? Check your throttle body gasket. This is the OEM Honda replacement gasket (part number 16176-RTA-004) that seals your throttle body to your intake manifold on K24A8 and K24Z1 engines. When it hardens and fails, unmetered air sneaks past your MAF, your ECU loses its mind, and your idle hunts or surges. It's a three-dollar fix that most people skip - and then they're pulling the throttle body a second time wondering why they still have a lean code.
Why Your Throttle Body Gasket Fails
The gasket lives between your throttle body and intake manifold. Its only job is to keep that joint airtight. It's rubber or paper composite, and years of heat cycling compress and harden it until it stops sealing. Once it goes, air bypasses your MAF completely - your ECU can't measure it, can't correct for it, and your fueling goes sideways. You'll see a high or hunting idle, lean fuel trims, and usually a P0171 or P0174 code. A lot of guys chase injectors, O2 sensors, and IACV before they think to check a three-dollar gasket. Don't be that guy.
Replace It Every Time You Pull Your Throttle Body
Anytime you're off with the throttle body - cleaning it, swapping it, doing intake manifold work - order a new gasket. It costs next to nothing and takes ten seconds to drop in. Reusing the old one is gambling. If it leaks, you're pulling everything apart again to replace a part that costs less than your lunch. Just order it with your other parts so it's on your bench when you need it.
Installation Notes
Before you install, scrape any old gasket material off both mating surfaces - throttle body and intake manifold. A razor blade works fine. The surfaces need to be clean and flat or your new gasket won't seal any better than the old one. Torque your throttle body bolts in a crisscross pattern to spec. Uneven torque distorts the gasket and you'll have a vacuum leak before you even start the car.
