    Here's What Your Intermediate Shaft Does

    Your intermediate shaft connects your transmission to your passenger-side axle. On Honda's front-wheel-drive layout, your driver's side axle goes directly from your transmission to your wheel. Your passenger side uses an intermediate shaft because your passenger axle's longer than your driver axle. Your intermediate shaft bolts to your transmission and it's got a bearing that mounts to your engine block. Your passenger axle connects to the outer end of your intermediate shaft. When your intermediate shaft bearing wears out, you'll get clunking noises, vibration, or your axle'll pop out of the intermediate shaft.
