Honda OEM Spare Tire Kit - FK8 Civic Type R

You bought a Type R and Honda didn't give you a spare tire. They gave you a tire repair kit with a can of Fix-a-Flat and a prayer. That's fine until you're on a road trip and you pick up a nail in the sidewall. The tire repair kit can't fix that. We've seen people pick up a screw in the sidewall. The sealant won't seal a sidewall puncture. You're calling a tow truck and you're waiting. A spare tire fixes all of that. You jack the car up, you swap the wheel, you throw the damaged wheel in the trunk, and you drive to a tire shop. You're not waiting for a tow. You're not stuck on the side of the highway.

This Is the Complete Factory Spare Tire Setup

Honda sells this kit for FK8 Type Rs in other markets where spare tires are required by law. It's a factory part. Everything fits like it's supposed to fit because it is how Honda designed the car. The spare wheel's a space-saver (donut spare). It's smaller and lighter than a full-size wheel. The foam insert sits in the spare tire well under the trunk floor and holds the wheel in place. The scissor jack fits in the foam insert next to the wheel. The tool kit includes the lug wrench, the tow hook, and a few other bits. The trunk floor carpet's a new piece with a cutout for the spare tire access. You're pulling your old trunk carpet out and putting this one in. The spare tire hold-down bolt threads into the bottom of the spare well and the bracket clamps the wheel down so it doesn't rattle around. The service decals are the little stickers that remind you the spare's only rated for 50 mph and temporary use. Everything's genuine Honda OEM. You Need to Buy the Tire Separately

The kit includes the wheel but NOT the tire. The tire size is T125/70R18. That's a temporary spare tire size. The "T" means it's a temporary spare rated for short distances and lower speeds. Honda uses a Continental spare tire (Honda part number 42751-CTL-039). You can buy the Honda tire from a dealer or you can buy any T125/70R18 spare tire from a tire shop. Continental, Bridgestone, and a few other manufacturers make tires in this size. They're all pretty similar. Mount the tire on the wheel, install the valve stem (it's included in the kit), and you're good. Don't run the car without a tire on the spare wheel. The wheel by itself doesn't do anything for you.

Some FL5 Owners Have Adapted This Kit

This kit's designed for the FK8 Type R (2017-2021). Some FL5 Type R owners (2023+) have adapted it to fit their cars. The FL5 trunk is similar to the FK8 trunk but there are some differences. We haven't confirmed that every part fits perfectly on the FL5. If you've got an FL5 and you want to try this kit, you're doing it at your own risk. Check FK8/FL5 forums and see what other people have done. Some parts might need modification. The carpet might not fit exactly right. The foam insert might need trimming.
